After a couple of days blundering around in the source code of a variety of Dashboard and Konfabulator widgets I’ve managed to put together an Internode Usage Meter widget for Dashboard.
The widget is based on Paul Johnson’s Konfabulator widget (www.hillmanminx.com/usagemeter/). Code and image reuse is with permission of Paul. Thanks!
So if you’d like to try it out head over to dashboard.tkdack.com and follow your nose.

I’ve been playing around with OS X Tiger the last couple of days, in particular the new Dashboard feature. It’s somewhat like Konfabulator, but all the widgets are contained in a separate “screen”.
Apparently Apple had a wee bit of a contest to design a dashboard widget, the result is:
Wikity Widget … sort of automagic cross-referenced sticky notes.

Looks like I’m not the only one who has attempted to post to my blog from my phone, George Walkley has been having a crack at it too.

Well after stuffing around trying to keep a server and an ADSL link up
in another state I’ve decided that it just isn’t going to happen. My
server appears to be off the ‘net at the moment. Probably because
there was an ADSL line problem, but since I’m in another state it is
pretty hard to give the ADSL modem a quiet kick in the guts to get
everything working again.
So, an hour or two at the keyboard and probably about the same perusing
documents on the python web site
and I have come up with a solution. My blogmail script (linked on the
right somewhere, if it works - must get that fixed) has been modified
so that it will run on the server of my web host. Thankfully my web
host is generous enough to proved an ssh login and all the goodies that
go with getting access to a linux command line. One of those goodies
is crontab - or the ability to run a specified program at certain times
or intervals. So now when I send an email to my blog it will be
processed no matter what, because that’s why I pay these guys money to
host my web site.
Now that’s out of the way I guess I’ll actually have to get off my bum
and start posting something to this thing.
Lucky for me that I am going on a bit of an around Australia trip over
the next few months, so I should have a few things to write about.
Even if those things are only my spectacular failures at kite surfing,
Enough for now, hopefully this works and ends up on the blog fairly
soon.

As you can see I’ve given the place a bit of a spruce up. Not sure how it will go in older versions of Internet Explorer, but it looks better than it did.
Only the main page has been converted at the moment. If your pick one of the archive pages then you’ll still get the old version. I’ll get around to fixing the rest of the pages, the main one was the main target.

Finally got off my bum and finished off the CSS for this site.
Everything that you see here is all due to CSS, no tables are used for layout.
If you really want to see what you can do with CSS have alook at the CSS Zen Garden for some truly remarkable CSS designs.

Posted from home to blog email address at tkdack.com, should end up in the blog via
XML-RPC.
Test URL, whirlpool.net.au: whirlpool.
Here’s hoping it works and there is no signature either.
